Ah thats where guildwars is different you see no subscription charges and apparently you dont need to play it for weeks just to advance 1 level so thats all good.

GUILD WARS IS FRICKING AWESOME!
I was beta testing it way back last year before Christmas, and even then it totally outclassed every other MMORPG available. And still does for that matter. Buy it now. Your life will slowly evaporate.

apparently, "WoW" kicks "guild wars'" ass, thats the news round my good friends of coventry(UK). as you mentioned there is the minor factor of payments, but you can pay in bulk £40 for 6 months (that put you off even more???). i have played WoW and it seems OK though the beginner "quests" suck ever so slightly. cant imagine it would be any different in guild wars though... we need the opinion of someone whos played both ovem really

A good friend of mine who is a staunch WoW supporter and I, a stauch GW supporter, decided to get together and show each other what the other was missing.
The conclusion was that it boils down to preference, they are both pretty much the same. Of course, I'm totally biased because I own and adore Guild Wars! Plus, my pockets are a tad heavier than my dear friend's once a month...

erm after having no social life for a month or 2 or 3 i had chase to have a go at both of them game.
ok yes GW is a lot better in graphics and some parts of game play are nice, but also the way you able to keep the cash in your pocket is also a grate advantage =)
the bad part i feal is the action with the outside world is in solo play so never see any players also the story line is weird and how you start the game
ok i am a big fan of WOW so i really love that game ok its out of my pocket =( but i think it is still a lot better in gameplay ways.
so i think really its a close call thing but acording to sales WOW is winning

Hey all!
I just bought Guild Wars like... 2 days ago. Am likeing it alot, tho i had to fork over about 100$ for a new graphics card "ATI Radeon 9250" i had bought a radeon x300....but it turns out they miss labeled the box and it wasn't a PCI slot card... so i had to return it and switch for the 9250.... stil a nice card.. but still....
Anyways. yea i really like the game.. anyone else play here?

I do! But that could be slightly obvious since this is my topic...
But since i'm still playing i suppose thats more relevent now!
So you enjoying it? What professions have you picked? Have you gen got to picking a second one yet?
If you email/msn me we could meet up "inside" i probably have some equipment that you would find useful! (Of course that is if you want it i wont force it upon you!) That is of course if you have advanced to "post-searing" I cant remember how long it took me to do "pre-searing" the first time, getting used to the controls and everything else... started a new character Elementalist/Monk last week and i'm well into the first (real!) area now. So he could well be of an appropriate level to journey with you!
See you on the otherside of the wall!

Can you be asocial in the game, like going lone? I hate teaming up, and having people bother me lol. Guess that's why I love single player games best I suppose

uhm.. kinda? the game is based on group vs group battles to my understanding. Thus(guild wars) I think u can go solo for most of the game. The computer will assign u npc partners I think... not 2 sure. Webb?

Basically there are 2 ways of playing the game 1. Player vs Environment (PvE) 2. Player vs Player (PvP)
In PvP obviously you have to play against real people and if you play in a 4x4 game then you get randomly assigned 3 other players if you dont have enough people to make a team.
In PvE you can play it all on your own doing the quests and running around the world as you go further in the game you can have larger parties and if you dont want to join up with other people then the are henchmen who you can grab to help you! (doesnt cost you anything ) Some quests would be difficult with just the henchmen but there is nothing stopping you trying to do them! And generally people are alright to play with though not always depends on the group you get...
Hope that cleared things up a bit if not try this site it has lots of FAQs and things Guildwars Online
Edit: Oh and it should be noted that you do not have to play PvP or for that matter PvE if you dont want to!
