I have recently purchased a tablet and I realise that it will take a while for me to get used to but at the moment I can not for the life of me get my lines to look nice and smooth using psp 7. Do you guys have any hints and tips regarding line quality?

Ink Fast. Regardless of what you're using to ink with. Spend a lot of time thinking about the line you want to make, then make it in one quick movement. Also, hold your brush/tablet quite far up.

Agreed. To get rid of wiggly looking lines, draw them in quickly. If you get a line wrong, there's always Ctrl+Z. Sometimes I'll repeat the "Draw and Undo" process several times before I have a perfect curve... But maybe that's just 'coz I'm bad at digital inking!

I've not used PSP for years, but there may be certain brush settings you can edit to give better results. I.e reduce "spacing".

Ah I see so the wiggly line isnt because my tablet was cheap, thats a big relief. Thanks for the tips guys.
I'll try messing with the settings more aswell, for some reason the air brush works better than the paint brush.

Well there are certain things you can do in psp to tweak the inking,
not sure if all settings are present in 7 as I'm using 9 right now.

But lets see first disable the use of pressure for opaque and make sure size is enabled.
If you want to control opaque (for painting) then disable size those two dont go that well atleast in my eyes.
Brushsize around 5-10 depending on how thick the lines need to be.
Hardness is a matter of taste 0 for a softline look. I prever stuff around 50 and up for inking tho.

As for the ink fast advise the other gave.
Usually I would agree even if I dont do that myself (yeah bad habit), psp however doesnt interpolate drawn lines, so when you go fast it often makes stright linesegments.
For psp I can recomend zooming in at 150-300% and slowly filling the lines by doing short strokes.

Oh and if it isnt clear by now psp brushengine sucks ass, only gimp is worse as far as I know^^.
What I'm doing lately is using opencanvas 1 (the free one) for inking and sketching for that its brushengine is very good. coloring tho still happens in psp.

And a last tip I picked up not too long ago.

Practice the lines two or three times, hold your pen close to the tablet but dont press on it. that way the cursor moves without drawing a line. this way you can see if you're following your scetch/pencildrawing. if you got the line right in your mind do it once more with fee... eh with pressure .

Everything you said about psp seems relevant to me even though its an older version. The only problem with zooming in is that I get lost easily. I will give it all a try though, thanks Giam.
